Leadership Philosophy
As your leader, I am committed to helping you to be a successful member of our team, to utilize your skills in a way that makes the organization better and helps you to grow as a professional. I care about our team and realize we all possess unique skills and abilities that combine together to make us stronger as a collective whole than they do as individual entities. This is an evolving philosophy that will grow over time as my leadership abilities improve and my insights for continued growth are more clear. I want you to know my philosophy and what matters to me both as a means of personal accountability and so you are aware of the direction I am leading our team.
I believe serving the staff and students is paramount to our success and is our main priority. Regardless of the technical initiatives or challenges we solve, our main goal is to serve the needs of our end users. This principal keeps us focused even when job responsibilities change or we encounter new obstacles to overcome. Technology is what we do, serving others is how we do it.
I believe integrity and character matter and will do my best to set the right example and model the type of behavior I want from you. Considering others will be a centerpiece of my approach to group discussions and troubleshooting processes. I will work hard to make ethical decisions that aim to always do what is right over what might be easy or convenient. I will work to remain selfless in our interactions as a team to make sure all voices are heard, understood and appropriately considered. I will listen to value the thoughts and perspectives of everyone and allow my ears to be bigger than my mouth.
I will see the best in the members of the team and trust the intent of each individual to be good and beneficial. Fostering a collaborative environment, I will not micromanage tasks and responsibilities but encourage the personal freedom to exercise individual skills and abilities that add to the overall success of what we accomplish together. I will be approachable to answer questions and provide honest, solution oriented feedback that aims to motivate and spur along a positive team dynamic. I will do this in the hope of creating an environment that is welcoming where each of you not only want to work but also don’t want to leave.
I also believe that good leaders must also be good followers. I should not be leading you if I myself am not willing to be led. I am committed to balancing both roles so that I maintain a unified approach with overall district decisions and don’t indirectly foster discord at a departmental level. I will ask you to trust and follow my lead because you know that I am also doing the same.
I would ask for your patience during those times when I need flexibility. I realize that I will not always reach the bar that I have set for myself but will use both personal successes and failures as opportunities to learn and grow. This process of lifelong learning as a leader is a direct attempt to not repeatedly make the same mistakes. My hope is that you’ll choose to also embark on this journey and do the same.
